Still around after 41 years and doing it right
Kirkers, what a good local restaurant should be, and like our customers say "where everyone knows your name", with great food and wallet friendly prices. Kirkers has been dishing up the best German and home style cooked foods for years.
There is just enough creativity in our menu and on our daily specials to keep you craving for more every day of the week. The last of the German restaurants in our area, we are still around after 40 years doing it right. Andy and Ginger Phiefer owned the Kings RansOm in Waidwick for 24 years, we took over Kirkers 21 years ago. We are now joined by our two children, Vic and Felicia to make it a truly family business.
Chef Ginger's award winning Sauerbraten is a "must try" with a thick ginger snap gravy, Schnitzels and "Wursts" are highly recommended along with her Goulash.
Following her family recipes of Hot Potato salad the way Grandma Ernestine made it, the home made sauerkraut, red cabbage, potato dumplings and pancakes are delicious. The menu is also made up of several salads, appetizers, sandwiches including her Boston cheese steak, a mouth-watering combination of Roast Beef, Onions, mushrooms on garlic bread with mozzarella and cheddar cheeses have it with "Mashed" mashed with cheddar cheese and bacon that's baked. Home made individual meatloaf, juicy prime rib, pasta and shrimp dishes, fabulous crab cakes and their newest addition to the menu giant Bavarian style pretzels. Several items are down-sized for the "not so hungry". Desserts include apple strudel, beehive cake, linzer tart, German and chocolate cake.
When the Phiefers bought Kirkers the place was well known for their thin crust pizza. We still make it the same way ...very, very thin and crispy.
Kirkers runs "theme" nights like: Tuesdays between 6 & 8 pm our "top 6 Entrees" are only $12.00! Sauerbraten, prime rib, schnitzel, tilapia, wurst platter, stuffed shrimp, complete with soup or salad, potato and vegetable. Wednesday night is shrimp night, several selections of shrimp for $12.95, Thursday is Early Dining All Day! Plus at the bar Happy Hour all night and our thin crust pizza for $9.95 including 2 toppings and soup or salad. Once a month there is a Schnitzel-fest with over 8 different schnitzels.
There is a full bar with an expanded Tap beer selection. In addition to Oktoberfest, Wiess Beer and Warstiener we have Miller Lite and two seasonal Micro Brews. There is also a very reasonable wine list with wines by the glass or bottle.
Entrees are under $19.95 and if you are here before 6pm there is an "Early Dining Menu" starting at $8.95 with over 23 entrees. It is available daily from noon. Lunch is served from 11:30am - 3pm, Monday thru Saturday. Stop in and try one of the Bavarian sausage sandwiches served with the home made kraut and hot potato salad for only $6.50, or an open-faced sauerbraten sandwich. Lunch specials plus the regular menu is also available.
